Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) model builds thematic units around the science and social studies standards, and emphasizes building background knowledge and comprehension around academic concepts through making connections to student experience, hands-on activities, realia, field trips, docent visits, and teaching strategies that brings teaching and learning to life. Our Kinder and first grade teachers are currently receiving training and collaborative time to best prepare for the new units of study. Kindergarten teachers are hard at work at a training Wednesday, Jan. 10, through Friday, January 12, 2018. First grade teachers participate in the training Jan 10 and 11, 2018. Students are being instructed by our highly qualified substitutes while teachers are at the training. If you are a parent of a child in one of these grade levels, you will see the impact of the hard work daily when your child explains to you what they are learning at school and also at the end of the unit at our Gallery Walks.
